Ingredients
Frozen tater tots (any brand; standard or extra crispy)
Cooking oil spray (optional but helps browning; use avocado, canola, or olive oil spray)
Kosher salt or sea salt
Black pepper (optional)
Optional seasonings: garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, Cajun seasoning
Optional toppings: shredded cheese, chopped green onions, bacon bits, sour cream, ranch, hot sauce, ketchup, barbecue sauce
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes. A hot basket jumpstarts crisping.
Add the tots in a single layer. Don’t thaw them. Spread them out so air can circulate. Lightly spray with oil if you want extra crunch.
Cook for 8 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through to prevent sticking and to brown all sides.
Season and cook a bit more. Sprinkle with salt and any spices you like. Air fry another 4–7 minutes, shaking once, until deep golden and crispy.
Check for doneness. Tots should be crisp to the touch and steamy inside. If needed, add 1–2 more minutes.
Serve hot. Finish with more salt if needed. Add cheese or toppings while they’re fresh so everything melts and sticks.
