Air Fryer Frozen Black Bean Burgers - Quick, Crispy, and Satisfying

Prep Time 3 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 13 minutes
Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Frozen black bean burgers: Any brand or homemade frozen patties
  • Buns: Brioche, whole wheat, or gluten-free (optional)
  • Cooking spray or oil mister: Avocado or olive oil (optional for extra crispiness)
  • Toppings: Lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles
  • Cheese (optional): Cheddar, Pepper Jack, or vegan slices
  • Sauce: Mayo, chipotle mayo, vegan mayo, BBQ sauce, or avocado
  • Seasonings (optional): Garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes. Preheating helps the patties crisp faster.
  • Prep the basket: Lightly mist the basket with cooking spray to reduce sticking. You can skip this if your air fryer is nonstick.
  • Place the frozen patties in a single layer. Don’t thaw. Leave a little space between each patty for airflow.
  • Air fry for 6 minutes. This starts the browning process.
  • Flip the patties. Air fry for another 4–6 minutes until the edges are crisp and the center is heated through. Total time is usually 10–12 minutes, depending on your air fryer and patty thickness.
  • Optional: Add cheese. Place a slice on each patty during the last 1–2 minutes and air fry just until melted.
  • Toast the buns (optional): Remove the patties, then toast buns cut-side up in the air fryer for 1–2 minutes.
  • Season and assemble: Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper on the patties. Layer buns with sauce, patty, and your favorite toppings.
  • Serve immediately while hot and crisp.
